The Government of Yukon is moving forward on its commitment to develop a Student Outcome Strategy that will improve student outcomes in the Yukon, including for First Nations students, rural students and students with diverse learning needs.
The government has contracted IRP Consulting to begin engaging with Yukon First Nations to gather feedback and include their input on the development of the strategy. Following their work with Yukon First Nation governments, there will be opportunities to include student voices as well as feedback from partners and stakeholders.
The development of the strategy directly addresses a recommendation in the 2019 Auditor General of Canada’s report on Kindergarten through Grade 12 Education in the Yukon. The Department of Education has committed to collaborate with Yukon First Nation governments, education partners and stakeholders to develop this strategy and support Yukon students and their successful learning.
The Student Outcome Strategy will help us develop a deeper understanding of how we can best support Yukon students and make evidence-based decisions that will ensure every student in the territory has an opportunity to succeed. By working collaboratively with Yukon First Nation governments, as well as our education partners, we will help sharpen our focus and target support that will improve outcomes for all Yukon students.

A joint Data Working Group was established in 2020 with the Chiefs Committee on Education to improve data sharing with Yukon First Nations about Yukon First Nations student outcomes. It has also assisted with the annual How We Are Doing reports that report on Yukon First Nation student data. -
Yukon-Wide Student Data Reports are published in March of each year for the previous school year. The reports include data on student enrolment, attendance, graduation rates and territory-wide assessments that measure student success at key milestones in their learning.
