Today, Minister of Community Services John Streicker presented Teslin’s Amy Handrahan with the Government of Yukon’s annual community recreation leadership award. The Government of Yukon gives out this award every year to Yukoners who have made outstanding contributions to recreation in their community. Amy Handrahan was nominated for her specific contributions as a coach with Teslin Minor Hockey and her overall commitment to recreation programming in her community.
Community recreation leaders play a critical role in Yukon. Their drive and passion help create countless opportunities for community members to stay active and connected with each other. Amy is an amazing example of a recreation leader who goes above and beyond to support her community and I am honoured to present her with this year’s award.
Amy is always extending herself as much as possible to participate in community recreation programs. She goes above and beyond to be involved in recreation, especially when it comes to youth programs, and gives readily of her time. She exemplifies the positive impact involved and engaged RCMP members can have on a community.

The Government of Yukon typically presents the community recreation leadership award every year at the annual recreation gathering, which it hosts jointly with the Recreation and Parks Association of the Yukon (RPAY). Due to the pandemic, the Association is hosting a series of online workshops in lieu of an in-person gathering. Minister Streicker presented the award at one of these workshops.

Thirty-eight individuals from communities throughout Yukon have received the award since the government first presented it in 2000.
